{"id":7,"date":"2010-01-03T23:20:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-04T03:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben3\/?p=7"},"modified":"2010-04-09T10:35:12","modified_gmt":"2010-04-09T14:35:12","slug":"catalytic-heater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben3\/?p=7","title":{"rendered":"Catalytic Heater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I installed a catalytic heater in the RV this weekend:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2820\" style=\"display: inline\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_2820\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben2\/CatalyticHeater_E9A9\/IMG_2820.jpg\" width=\"667\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pplmotorhomes.com\/parts\/rv-furnaces\/olympian-wave-heaters.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Olympian Wave 6<\/a>.&#160; The advantage of a catalytic heater is that it requires no electricity, so it\u2019s perfect for <a href=\"http:\/\/ourodyssey.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/dispersed-camping-on-public-lands.html\" target=\"_blank\">boondocking<\/a>. Also, it creates Carbon Dioxide as a bi-product, not Carbon Monoxide, so it\u2019s safe to have it in an enclosed space.&#160; The only caveat is that it does consume oxygen, so the windows have to left open a 1\/2 inch or so to provide enough ventilation that the oxygen in the interior in replenished.<\/p>\n<p>The door assembly of the RV folds inward when the RV is folded down, so I had to mount the heater on rails so that it can be moved out of the way before folding up the RV.<\/p>\n<p>Here it is in position when in use:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2822\" style=\"display: inline\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_2822\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben2\/CatalyticHeater_E9A9\/IMG_2822.jpg\" width=\"375\" \/>&#160;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">And here it is when it\u2019s been moved over:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2823\" style=\"display: inline\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_2823\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben2\/CatalyticHeater_E9A9\/IMG_2823.jpg\" width=\"375\" \/> <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2825\" style=\"display: inline\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_2825\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wymore.net\/benandtricia\/blog\/ben2\/CatalyticHeater_E9A9\/IMG_2825.jpg\" width=\"667\" \/>&#160;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Here\u2019s the view on the inside of the cabinet.&#160; I had to cut the copper propane line and install a &quot;T&quot; for the heater.
