Gate Hill Rd vs. South Mountain Rd.
Gate Hill Rd: 400 ft over 1 mile = 7.58% average grade:

South Mountain Rd: 394 ft over 0.79 miles = 9.47% average grade:
Funny, Gate Hill Rd seems harder, probably because the steepest part is at the end, while SMR’s is at the beginning.
Iterations of climbage
Gabe, Simcha, and I rode out to Gate Hill Road with one of Gabe and Simcha’s sons. I couldn’t get the cyclecomputer to turn on this morning, so I’ve pulled data from rides in 2007.
Here’s the approach to Gate Hill Rd:
We rode up and down Gate Hill Rd three times. Here’s what it looks like:
I’m sure I could have done another rep or two before collapsing. Maybe.
Anyway, about 20 miles total. It was good fun.
New York Botanical Garden
