Kayaking with the Oppenheimers
We took the Oppenheimers kayaking this afternoon. In addition to our 5 kayaks, we rented 3 from EMS. We had 6 on the trailer and two on the roof of the van.
We put in at the Haverstraw kayak launch:


Unfortunately, we went out during a falling tide. We reached a large bay, but in spots it only had an inch or so of water. I ended up getting out and pushing everyone out of the bay. Here’s my kayak sitting on the bottom:

At the Liberty Science Center
We went to the Liberty Science Center today:
Here Mechel is drilling for oil using an exploratory rig. It’s designed to show how much work it takes to find oil, but he never did find it, so maybe it’s just broken:
They had a special exhibit on skyscrapers, and they had this beam from the world trade center. Seeing it bent this way was quite sobering:

Birkas HaChama
This morning, we had a once-in-28-year chance to bentch Birkas Hachama. A group of local shuls got together at the local golf course/country club:
